A once empty lot lies on the corner of 4th St. and Academy Way. Under the visionary leadership of Pastor Troy Fitzgerald, this space, formerly used for heavy-equipment storage (and earlier mud football), now serves to bless students and our community alike. In the spirit of Leviticus 19, "The Edge" seeks to be a community garden for sharing the gifts God has granted each of us.

All summer, dedicated high school and college students, as well as energetic community members, work on the ad hoc farm team earning. For their efforts, they receive an hourly wage as well as a matching scholarship funded by generous donors and the University Church budget. These farmers then have the privilege of blessing people in need with the fruits of harvest.

The project is going so well that today, Pastor Troy reports that the biggest obstacle facing "The Edge" is a rogue gopher. He invites everyone to stop by and pick up produce to share with their own neighbors, building community.

MUSIC NOTE

We thank Richard Scott of Walla Walla University's Peterson Memorial Library for serving as our guest organist today and Bruce Toews of the business department for leading the praise band. We also thank Holly and Schuan Carpenter for sharing their music. Just over a year ago the Carpenters returned to the Walla Walla Valley, but it is appropriate now to give them another special welcome home as this fall Holly will begin directing the string program of Rogers Adventist School.

Our first hymn (No.39 Lord, in the Morning) is based on Psalm 5. As you prepare to worship I invite you to read and meditate on this short psalm. Some of the verses most pertinent to the hymn text are given here:

(v.3) My voice shalt thou hear in the morning,
O LORD: in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.

(v.8) Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies;
make thy way straight before my face.

(v.11) But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy,
because thou defendest them:
let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.

(v.12) For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous: with favor wilt thou compass him as with a shield.

-Kraig Scott

GIVE

The University Church budget funds many important aspects of our local ministry. Although pastors' salaries are funded by donations marked "tithe", the University Church budget is what subsidizes our amazing K-12 school programs at Walla Walla Valley Academy and Rogers Adventist School. It also makes our worship services and broadcast ministry possible. Thank you for your generous and systematic support!

As always - we welcome your gifts made right here on our website. Click Here to Give!
