Our partner in ministry, Rogers Adventist School, has welcomed four new staff members to their team for the 2016–17 school year. Although each of these women is new to their positions, they're also already known and beloved in the valley.

Holley Bryant steps into the role of principal at Rogers after most recently serving as the WWU marketing and human relations director. Holly Blackwelder Carpenter takes over as the director of Rogers' strings, a program to which she belonged as a child and teenager. Melissa Claridge is shifting from part-time to full-time at Rogers, and from Jr. High to 3–4th grade. Finally, Jennifer Castleman joins the Rogers family leading a newly created Kindergarten room, the school's second of that grade level.

The University Church pastoral staff and church family celebrates the important work of not only these four, but of the entire team at Rogers Adventist School.

Global Leadership Summit 2016

The 2016 Global Leadership Summit is in the books! More than 100 Walla Walla leaders gathered last week in our sanctuary to rekindle their passion, sharpen their skills, and recommit themselves to lives of service. Thank you to the large team of dedicated volunteers who worked hard to make these valuable moments possible! You made your church family proud!

Please mark your calendar for next year's leadership summit: August 10–11, 2017.

MUSIC NOTE

We thank Benjamin Gish for sharing his music with us this Sabbath. We also also thank Schuan Carpenter for leading the praise band.

The postlude derives from the Second Sonata for Viola da gamba and Harpsichord, BWV 1028, by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750). The six-string, fretted
viol da gamba has become rather a rare instrument, so we hear this sonata played on a modern cello and accompanied not with harpsichord but organ. It is a marvelous fact that Bach’s great music sounds good on any instrument!

The prelude forms the third movement of Sonata in G minor for Cello and Piano, Op.19, by Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943). The full title of the offertory reads, “Melodie on a theme by Sergei Rachmaninoff.” The melody in question was written for, and dedicated to, Rachmaninoff’s Moscow Conservatory classmate Modest Altschuler (1873-1963), with whom he often presented concerts. Sergei Rachmaninoff often began his set with a piano improvisation and this melody was composed upon Altschuler’s request to lead off the cello set. After Rachmaninoff’s death when Altschuler was living in California, Modest finally published this piece as a token of affection for his old friend Rachmaninoff.

GIVE

The University Church budget funds many important aspects of our local ministry. Although pastors' salaries are funded by donations marked "tithe", the University Church budget is what subsidizes our amazing K-12 school programs at Walla Walla Valley Academy and Rogers Adventist School. It also makes our worship services and broadcast ministry possible. Thank you for your generous and systematic support!

As always - we welcome your gifts made right here on our website. Click Here to Give!
