“The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science. He to whom the emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand wrapped in awe, is as good as dead — his eyes are closed.
The insight into the mystery of life, coupled though it be with fear, has also given rise to religion. To know what is impenetrable to us really exists, manifesting itself as the highest wisdom and the most radiant beauty, which our dull faculties can comprehend only in their most primitive forms — this knowledge, this feeling is at the center of true religiousness.”
-Albert Einstein, from "Living Philosophies"

THIS SABBATH
AT THE UNIVERSITY CHURCH
WORSHIP NOTE
We thank two student ensembles of Walla Walla Valley Academy for sharing their music — the WWVA Singers and the WWVA Praise Ringers, both directed by Patti Short and accompanied by Cora Crumley. It was just last Friday that the Praise Ringers played a major role in the University Christmas Concert and we are grateful for the opportunity to hear them again. Please join me in welcoming Patti and these wonderful musicians.
Our music features several soloists today. In the first choral anthem Zoey Brenes plays Double Bass; in the second anthem Zoey joins Holly Carpenter and Sarena Rau in a string trio, while Karyme Guzman-Rosa performs the vocal solo. The offertory anthem features Christian Wallace- Bailey, Marsean Ologbosele, and Eli Stanciu in the bass solo.
The prelude is based on a poem found in our hymnal, No.126. As you prepare your heart to worship God I invite you to meditate on this text, some of which is given here:
What can I give Him,
Poor as I am?
If I were a shepherd
I would bring a lamb;
If I were a wise man
I would do my part;
Yet what can I give Him?
Give my heart.
-Kraig Scott
