"So why church? The short answer is because the Holy Spirit formed it to be a colony of heaven in the country of death."

MUSIC NOTE

We thank Megan Schwark, a senior music major, and Paris Altman, a sophomore nursing major, for sharing their music with us today.

Devotion, the anthem, is based on "I Am Thine" by William H. Doane. Lord, I Want to Be a Christian, an American folk hymn, as arranged by John Ness Beck and transcribed by the American composer Craig Courtney. The prelude forms an organ meditation by another American, Gilbert M. Martin (b.1941). It is based on a famous biblical passage: “Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God.” (Ruth 1:16)

Finally, I would like to invite you to a free, special concert this Monday evening at 7pm in the sanctuary. Kris Wettstein, graduate of WWU and Rice University, now living in New York, will present his own composition "Tent of Meeting."

Kris describes the concert this way:

“The music is inspired by the story in Exodus of God filling the rooms of the tabernacle in the form of a cloud. It features room-like musical structures that are filled with freely improvised clouds of sound. I prepared to play this piece by improvising with clouds, and portraying their texture and rate of change at the piano in real time. Some of the resultant clouds of sound are dense and immersive, others are spare with stretches of silence. My hope in writing it is
that love will be palpably felt in both the dense
vibrations and the silences.”

Happy Sabbath and happy listening!

-Kraig Scott

GIVE

The University Church budget funds many important aspects of our local ministry. Although pastors' salaries are funded by donations marked "tithe", the University Church budget is what subsidizes our amazing K-12 school programs at Walla Walla Valley Academy and Rogers Adventist School. It also makes our worship services and broadcast ministry possible. Thank you for your generous and systematic support!

As always - we welcome your gifts made right here on our website. Click Here to Give!
