MUSIC NOTE
We wish the warmest of Walla Walla welcomes to the wonderful musicians of Walla Walla Valley Academy – the Orchestra under the direction of Benjamin Gish, the Praise Ringers directed by Patti Short, and the Choir directed by Amelia Messervy. Please join me in thanking these ensembles, the many hard-working students, and their directors. We have one and one-half weeks to go before Christmas, and this pre-Christmas season traditionally known as Advent, a four-week period of anticipation and preparation for the coming of Christ. During Advent it is appropriate to sing Advent carols such as our opening hymn. There is benefit to such extended periods of reflection for they allow us to walk with God in real time in a way most of us would otherwise never experience. Our closing hymn, (No.122) breaks the rules for it proclaims “Glory to the newborn King,” and should therefore technically be sung only on 25 December or later, during the 12-day long Christmas season. As you prepare your heart to worship God and anticipate the coming of Christ into your heart and life, I invite you to meditate on the words of our opening hymn, some of which are given here.
O come, Thou Wisdom from on high,
And order all things, far and nigh;
To us the path of knowledge show,
And cause us in her ways to go.
O come, Desire of nations, bind
All peoples in one heart and mind;
Bid envy, strife, and quarrels cease;
Fill the whole world with heaven’s peace.
-Kraig Scott
