MUSIC NOTE

It is always a high Sabbath when we get to experience the music of the Walla Walla Valley Orchestra, an ensemble under the direction of Benjamin Gish for the past 27 years. Please join me in welcoming this wonderful group.

The orchestra plays a wide range of music today. Girolamo Frescobaldi (1583-1643) was one of the masters of the early Baroque period. On the other end of the time spectrum, Matt Riley and Carrrie Lane Gruselle are still very active as musicians, pedagogues, and composers, Riley in Minnesota and Gruselle in Wisconsin.

Our closing hymn, No.500, speaks to the spiritual discipline of prayer and meditation. As you prepare your heart to worship God I invite you to quietly meditate on some of the words of this hymn, given here.

Take time to be holy,
The world rushes on;
Spend much time in secret
With Jesus alone;
By looking to Jesus,
Like Him thou shalt be;
Thy friends in thy conduct
His likeness shall see.

-Kraig Scott
