As we gather in worship this morning, we extend a warm welcome to families visiting students this weekend. We acknowledge that we are created by God, and also co-created by our families into the people we are today. In our singing, praying, and listening, may this time of worship, bless you with a lambent awareness of God's deep love and faithful presence.

MUSIC NOTE
We wish a warm WW welcome to all visitors, especially parents joining us on this Parent Weekend. We are happy to have you on campus and glad that you are here to worship God with us. We also thank the students of University Singers and I Cantori as well as the many musicians of the Walla Walla University Orchestra, under the direction of Brandon Beck, from whom we hear for the first time this year.
The orchestra performs three movements of monumental works: the second movement of Symphony No. 9 (New World) in G minor, Op.95 by Antonín Dvorák (1841-1904); the second movement of the Piano Concerto in a minor, Op.16 by Edvard Grieg (1843-1907): and the overture to the oratorio St. Paul by Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847). Siena Mirasol, a senior music major from Portland, performs piano on the offertory.
In the offertory the choir sings a traditional text based on Luke 2:14, joined by Ron Coleman, clarinet instructor, and choral accompanist Trevor Natiuk, a sophomore from Portland. At the end of the sermon I Cantori sings a text by the early American shape note poet, John Adam Granade (1763-1807) set by an alumnus of WWU, Reginald Unterseher (b.1956). As you prepare your heart to worship God I invite you to meditate silently on this text.
Sweet rivers of redeeming love lie just before mine eyes.
Had I the pinions of a dove, I’d to those rivers fly.
I’d rise superior to my pain, with joy outstrip the wind.
I’d cross o’er Jordan’s stormy wave and leave this world behind.
-Kraig Scott
